I. The Earth Opened Its Mouth (1-12)

>1. What does the Lord require of us? (1; Matt. 22:36-40; John 14:15-18)

* Deuteronomy 11:1 "Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always."

* Love the Lord your God is repeated thirteen times in Deuteronomy.

* Matthew 22:36-40 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

* Love the Lord your God is also in Mark 12:30 and Luke 10:27.

* John 14:15-18 "If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever-- the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you."

*

>Did the grandchildren of those who the Lord brought out of Egypt experience any miracles? (2-4)

* Deuteronomy 11:2-4 "Remember today that your children were not the ones who saw and experienced the discipline of the LORD your God: his majesty, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm; 3 the signs he performed and the things he did in the heart of Egypt, both to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his whole country; 4 what he did to the Egyptian army, to its horses and chariots, how he overwhelmed them with the waters of the Red Sea as they were pursuing you, and how the LORD brought lasting ruin on them."

*

*

*

*

*

>Did they experience the cleansing of the earth opening up? (5-6)

* Deuteronomy 11:5-6 "It was not your children who saw what he did for you in the desert until you arrived at this place, 6 and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth right in the middle of all Israel and swallowed them up with their households, their tents and every living thing that belonged to them."

*

*

*

*

*

>Who saw these things and what should they do with that knowledge? (7; 4:9-10)

* Deuteronomy 11:7 "But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the LORD has done."

* Deuteronomy 4:9-10 "Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. Remember the day you stood before the LORD your God at Horeb, when he said to me, "Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children."

*

*

*

>2. What is the first reason should they observe the God's laws? (8)

*

*

*

*

>And the second? (9)

* Deuteronomy 11:9 "and so that you may live long in the land that the LORD swore to your forefathers to give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey."

*

*

*

*

>How did Jesus say the same thing in Luke 6:46-49?

* Luke 6:46-49 "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete."

*

*

*

*

>3. How did they have grow crops in Egypt? (10)

* Matthew 6:33-34 "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

*

*

*

* Matthew 28:18-20 "Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
