The time of judges and the time of kings overlaps with Samuel. He stopped being a judge when he anointed Saul as King. However, he continued to be a prophet and a priest until his death at an old age. Samuel was born in 1105 and served with the priests at Shiloh. The Lord called him at the age of twelve and began his ministry at Mizpah just past thirty. Samuel would have known of some the the judges before him, especially Samson. Samuel was more than a judge as Moses was more than a judge. |
