I. The Tragic End of Judas Iscariot (1-10)

1. What had the chief priests and elders been doing all night?

What decision did they reach? Why did they send Jesus to Pilate?

2. Why was Judas seized with remorse? How did he try to undo what he had done? What did the chief priests and elders say to him? What did he do? How is remorse different from repentance?

3. Why had he betrayed Jesus? What did he gain? What can we learn from Judas' failure? What happened to his money? What does this show us about God's sovereignty in these events?

II. Jesus Suffered for Our Sins (11-44)

4. What was the charge against Jesus? How did Jesus answer? Why was Pilate amazed by Jesus? How did Isaiah describe Jesus? (Isa. 53:7)

5. What was Pilate's personal conclusion about Jesus? (18, 19) How did he compromise instead of following the truth? How else did he try to escape the responsibility? How did the crowd respond? (25) Who was responsible for Jesus' death?

6. What does it mean that Jesus was flogged? How did the soldiers mock him? Why did he have to suffer like this? (Isa. 53:5)

III. Jesus Died for Our Sins (45-56)

9. What did Jesus cry from the cross? What does it mean? Why was this such great agony to Jesus? (Isa. 59:2; 53:6b, 12c) What happened at the moment of Jesus' death? (51-53) What does his death mean to us? (cf. Heb. 9:7, 25, 26; 1 Tim. 2:5)
