I. In Later Times (4:1-5)

1. When is "later times"? (Daniel 12:4, 9-10; Matt. 24:3; 1 John 2:18-19) What does "abandon the faith" tell us about the start of these believers? (Matt. 13:5-6, 20-21) What teachings do they end up believing and teaching? Why does the Spirit so clearly warn us of this?

2. What kind of a person is a hypocritical liar? (2) What is our conscience? How can it be "seared as with a hot iron"? What do they force onto other believers? (3a) why is this wrong? (3b)

3. Consider the foods that God created. How do some confuse what man made from what God created from what God created? How are we to receive the foods God created? Why?

II. Godliness (4:6-10)

4. What is a minister? What does verse 4 teach about the qualities of a good minister? Can there be bad ministers? (Luke 12:45-46)

5. According to verse 7 what are some of the differences between good ministers and bad ministers? Why might a poor minister propagate godless myths and old wives' tales?

6. Does godliness come naturally? (8; Gal. 5:16-17) Who do the godly put their hope in? Who is God a savior of? What does it mean "especially of those who believe"?

III. Be Diligent in These Matters (4:11-16)

7. What's the difference between commands and teachings? (11) When would be the proper time to use one and not the other?

8. What reason might some in the congregation not listen to Timothy? (12) How was he to deal with that problem? How does this shed light on the relationships between ministers and the congregation?

9. What else is a minister to do? (13)

10. How was Timothy commissioned as a minister? How serious was Timothy to take his ministry? (15) Was he to be lazed? (16) What should be the outcome of his ministry?
